Nestled in the countryside of Suffolk just east of Cambridge, the town of Bury St Edmunds has long been a popular tourist destination for visitors seeking a quiet escape in the rural haven that is the St Edmundsbury area.  Bury St Edmunds is famed for it's ruined Abbey, once the resting place of Saint Edmund the Martyr, which has laid in ruin since the Dissolution of the Monasteries during King Henry VIII's reign in the sixteenth century.  St Edmundsbury Cathedral is also highly regarded by visitors, as is the last surviving Regency theatre in the country, the Theatre Royal, and Moyse's Hall Museum, one of the oldest non-civic buildings to remain open for the public to visit.  Fans of beer will happily find much to keep them busy in Bury St Edmunds - the Old Cannon Brewery and the Greene King Brewery are located within the town, as is the smallest public house in Britain, The Nutshell.  Further afield from Bury St Edmunds are the towns of Ipswich (south-east on the A14), Cambridge (west on the A14), Sudbury (south on the A134) and Thetford (north on the A134).

Bury St Edmunds is situated on the Cambridge-Ipswich train line and services to Ipswich, London, Cambridge and Peterborough are regular.  There are two airports close to Bury St Edmunds, London Stansted (located to the south of Cambridge on the M11 Motorway), and Norwich International Airport (located to the north-east, following the A134, A11 and A140 from Bury St Edmunds).  It is possible to hire a car from either airport, from Cambridge, or in Bury St Edmunds itself - Hertz, Arriva, National, 1car1 Rental and United all have offices within the town.
